U turn.

You may feel that you would like to live in relationship with God (rather than isolated from Him) and discover the exciting and fulfilling life that He wants you to enjoy with Him. Coming into relationship with Him is as simple as the A,B,C:

  1. ADMIT you have made poor choices and done wrong things.  Say sorry and mean it.  Turn away from those things – leave them behind.
  2. BELIEVE that Jesus died to pay the price for all your wrongdoing and to bring you forgiveness.  He did it to end your separation from God.  God wants a relationship with you.
  3. COMMIT to living life with God and receive His free gifts of forgiveness from your wrongdoing, freedom from guilt, shame and fear and friendship with Father God made possible by His Spirit who comes to live inside you and helps you live the exciting and fulfilling life God has in store for you.

Here is a prayer you might like to pray now:

Father God

I am sorry for the things that I have done wrong.
[Reflect a moment and ask God to forgive you for anything that comes to mind].

Thank you for sending your son Jesus to die on the cross
so that I could be forgiven and set free to enjoy a relationship with you.

From now on, I want to live in relationship with you.
Please come and live in me by your Holy Spirit
And give me the assurance of your forgiveness and love.
Help me to turn away from everything I know to be wrong and to turn towards everything I know to be right, good, true and pure.

Thank you. Amen.

If you prayed that prayer and meant it, you are now a Christian.  The Bible says you have been ‘born again’.  Spiritually, you have started a new life.

You might not feel any different right now, but God has forgiven you, He has welcomed you into relationship with Him and He has come to live in you by His Spirit.  You have drawn a line under the past – by His Spirit, God will help you to discover and enjoy your new life with Him.  He won’t let you down or disappoint you.

You might find it helpful to buy the booklet ‘Why Jesus?’ which sets out the same Christian message as above, but slightly differently and in more detail.  You can but it from us (see the ‘Buy’ section).

There are a few other things you should now do as a new Christian, to help you get going and keep going in your relationship with God…

Tell someone.

Tell someone you have made this life changing commitment. Either tell a Christian friend who will be pleased to hear your news, or get in touch with us through the ‘Contact us’ page. We would love to hear from you.

Read the Bible.

The Bible is the most translated, most published, most read and most purchased book ever – and by a huge margin over its nearest rival! Wikipedia say that 5-6 billion have been sold! Pilgrims Progress by John Bunyan comes 2nd (although there is no published figure). The Communist Chairman Mao’s Little Red Book has sold 1 billion copies – but the population of China is about 1.3 billion! There is a reason why the Bible has sold so well. God Himself caused it to be written for our benefit and He still speaks to us through it today. In one place the Bible says, “For the Word of God is full of living power. It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires”.

If you don’t already have a modern translation of the Bible, we recommend that you buy one. It would also be really helpful if it had footnotes that will help you find your way round it and explain parts that are not immediately clear. We recommend one from the ‘Life Application Bible’ series, either the New Living Translation (green cover) or the New International Version (red cover). You can buy either of these from our website.

You should also obtain some notes, to help you get started with reading the Bible.  We recommend you buy “30 Days” by Nicky Gumbel.  These notes are an excellent way to look at the themes (and the relevant Bible passages) that will be of particular interest to you as a new Christian or as an enquirer.

It is run in a relaxed way around good food, stimulating talks and small group discussion.
